The CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations aims to fulfil the minimum educational requirements for obtaining a Western Australian (WA) security licence. This qualification, aligned with the national training package, is designed to pave the way for a career in the security industry.
Upon successful achievement of this qualification and completion of the SAIWA Competency Test, learners will be eligible to apply for a security licence from the WA Police Security Licensing Branch.
Upon receipt of the Security Officer license, learners will be qualified to work as a licensed Security Officer, either as an Unarmed Guard or Crowd Controller and be able to work at such events and places as concerts or festivals, as mobile patrol guards, static guard in retail or hospital settings, on construction sites, and provide security services at universities and shopping centres.

This qualification reflects the role of a security officer, responsible for maintaining safety and security by patrolling, protecting or guarding property while unarmed, and screening entry, monitoring behaviour and removing persons from premises.

Security officers qualified through this course may operate individually or as part of a team under general supervision. They are expected to work with a degree of autonomy and judgement in completing routine but varied tasks. They hold some accountability and responsibility for their own work outputs, as well as their development.
The course covers various study areas, including:
Legislation, negligence, duty of care, courts, arrest powers, trespass, self-defence, safe restraint techniques, searching, questioning, and security licensing legislation.
Property protection, handling bomb threats, fire procedures, hazardous goods, and foundations of security.
Conflict resolution, negotiation, body language, and verbal responses.
Duties of security officers, including mobile patrols, static guard, access control, retail security, alarm response, workplace health and safety, and use of communication equipment.
Crowd controller duties in hotels, licensed clubs, special events, concerts, and the use of hand-held metal detectors.
First aid and CPR, including primary and secondary surveys, treatment of bleeding and wounds, burns, head injuries, shock, medical emergencies, fracture management, poisoning, bites, and stings.
This course is designed for those interested in entering the security industry, whether as a career path or as a means to find additional work that accommodates their busy schedules.
Certificate II in Security Operations is focused on providing the essential knowledge and skills required to perform as a security officer. It is also relevant for individuals who have acquired qualifications and skills through other forms of employment or training, such as the Police Force, Corrections Department, Military Service, or those who have previously held a security qualification and licence.
These individuals may opt to formalise their experience by achieving this qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning or Current Competency.

Individuals undertaking the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations Course must successfully complete the course and receive their qualification before attempting the SAIWA Competency Test. When the individual has passed the competency test they are eligible to apply to Western Australian Police Licensing Enforcement Division (WAPOL) for a Security Officer license.
Learners should be aware that fees apply for both the SAIWA competency test and the WAPOL licensing process. These fees are subject to change, must be paid directly to the relevant organisations, and are not collected by Core Training Group. Please check the links above for current pricing.
As this qualification involves regulatory and licensing requirements, learners with certain criminal convictions—particularly violent offences—may be ineligible for a Security Officer licence. Core Training Group cannot provide advice on individual cases. When delivering this nationally recognised qualification in Perth, Core Training Group runs the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations course as a 10-day class, or 14-night class, delivered through a blend of structured tutorials, workshops, case studies, videos, practical assignments, and real-world application. Both individual and group work activities, along with assessment tasks, are integral parts of the course. There are 18 assessment tasks, done as homework assignments.
Homework typically requires around 15 hours to complete, depending on the individual student’s personal circumstances and other commitments. This part of the training involves reading modules and applying the acquired knowledge to complete a number of written assessments. The homework is expected to be completed over the 2 weeks of the 10-day face-to-face course, or 3 weeks of the 14-night face to face evening course, outside of the scheduled course hours.
The trainers and assessors responsible for delivering our course are accredited experts in their respective fields. They hold the requisite qualification to deliver this course and meet the relevant professional experience requirements in line with the 2025 Standards Credential Policy.

In line with WA Police Licensing requirements, this course is delivered face to face only. Perth based courses are either scheduled:
Monday to Friday, from 08:30 am to 5:00 pm each day, for 10 days (2 weeks).
Conducted over 14 consecutive evenings, Monday to Friday only 5:30-10:30 pm each weeknight.
Our CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations course complies with Western Australia Police Security Licensing Branch requirements, the course a combination of supervised instruction and unsupervised activities, which include completing scenario-based activities and written assessments. These 18 activities build upon the theory provided during the face-to-face sessions and are considered essential homework.
Whilst we provide an evening class for learners’ convenience, please consider your personal circumstances and available time outside of course hours if you are thinking of doing the night course and intend to continue work full time. Learners’ will need to use their weekend to complete homework assignments. Working a full day, plus study and then homework makes for an intense 3 weeks, and many people report feeling exhausted with this workload.
It is important that you attend each day of the course. If you do not attend each day of your course you cannot graduate. Core Training Group will work with you to ‘catch up’ in the event of sickness at no cost (medical certificate required), or can book you in for the same session on the next course. Please note a $110.00 fee applies for each catch up class (day) required to complete your qualification.
If you miss a session on the night course, you can either book in for the same session on the day class (full day’s attendance required), or wait until the next night course, and align your catch up class there. Evening classes are held quarterly; certificates cannot be released until the catch up class is completed.
Core Training Group is committed to providing inclusive and supportive training to all students. As part of this, we aim to ensure prospective students have the language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills required to successfully participate in their chosen course.
An LLND test can be administered for students who are unsure about returning to study or want to better understand their current skill level in relation to their prosed course. This helps us identify whether additional support or adjustment may be beneficial and ensures the course is a good fit for the student’s needs.
In context of training delivered by Core Training Group, specifically at the Certificate II level, digital literacy requirements include an ability to operate a device and connect to the internet, that the student can access and navigate our LMS, aXcelerate, can undertake and respond to general online communication and have a basic knowledge of device and internet troubleshooting.
We recognise the importance of incorporating digital technology into our training resources, in line with training package expectations. There is no requirement that students use AI at the Certificate II Security Operations level. Core Training Group provides resources and reading materials from which students can base their assessment answers.
For this reason, students must not use AI to research or answer assessment questions. Suspected use of AI may result in a verbal assessment. If the student cannot clearly and accurately explain their answers, the assessment will be failed. For details, see our AI and Assessment Policies via the link at the bottom of our website.

Core Training Group provides flexible and culturally responsive learning environments that are inclusive of all learners and encourage open conversations about learning needs during the enquiry or enrolment process.
To obtain the nationally recognised qualification, CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, participants are required to complete the assigned written and practical assessments. Specific details regarding these assessments will be provided along with the course materials. The program may offer some flexibility in terms of timing and may include suggested work activities. These activities can be conducted on-site or in a simulated work environment, as needed. This approach will be determined in consultation with stakeholders prior to the commencement of the course.
Participants will have access to our highly qualified and industry-experienced Trainers, who will provide guidance to assist with the completion of each unit within suitable timeframes, tailored to your study goals. Additionally, Trainers are available throughout the study period to answer any questions learners may have or to help overcome any challenges encountered during the course.
The assessment due dates will be agreed upon with the learner and outlined within the training and assessment plan.
The RTO, Core Training Group, will issue the learner qualification CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations upon the successful completion of the student’s assessments.
In cases where learners have chosen additional units of competencies to complement the CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations, such as SITHFAB021 Provide responsible service of alcohol, CPCWHS001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or HLTINF006 Apply basic principles and practices of infection prevention and control, those units will be separately awarded a Statement of Attainment.
Assuming course fees have been paid, the learner will receive their qualification or statement of attainment via mail within 30 days of completing the course.
Recognition of Prior Learning – RPL
Assessment for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a comprehensive audit of your skills, former education, employment history and other abilities, which may be conducted using a variety of tools inclusive of comprehensive portfolio of evidence, questions and written scenarios or gap training to substantiate and support your claim for RPL. More detailed information about the RPL process will be provided before enrolment by one of our training assessors. During this process, you and your assessor will determine if there is a need for any additional training. If required, this can be achieved through the completion of individual units, which may incur an additional fee.
Recognition of Prior Learning is offered to individuals who possess extensive experience in Security, Policing, Military, and related fields. If you have more than 1 years’ experience in security operations, you are encouraged to consider the RPL process. This involves undertaking a self-assessment against the competency standards of this qualification.
Full payment is required prior to the commencement of the nominated course.
The fees cover all the necessary assessments and classroom resources, including resources required for pre-course online training. Please note that this course is not eligible for VET Funding. Refund, Cancellation and Deferral Policy
Core Training Group is committed to providing clear, fair and transparent arrangements for fees, refunds, cancellations and deferrals. The following policy applies to all students enrolling in fee-for-service training courses unless otherwise stated in a funding agreement.
Course Deposits
A non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place in a course. This deposit covers administrative costs associated with enrolment, course preparation and reserving your place in the program. By paying a deposit, you are confirming your commitment to participate in the course.

Cancellations by Core Training Group
If Core Training Group cancels or reschedules a course and is unable to offer a suitable alternative date or delivery method:
A full refund, including the deposit, will be provided; or
Students may opt to defer their enrolment to a future course date at no additional cost.
Student-Initiated Cancellation
If a student wishes to cancel their enrolment:
More than 7 days prior to the course start date: A partial refund may be granted, excluding the non-refundable deposit.
Within 7 days of the course start date or after training has commenced: No refund will be issued, except in cases of compassionate or compelling circumstances, assessed on a case-by-case basis.
All cancellation requests must be submitted in writing to [email protected].
Deferrals and Transfers
Students may request to defer their enrolment or transfer to another course date:
Requests must be made at least 5 business days prior to the course commencement date.
A deferral incurs an administrative fee of $100 due at time of deferral.
Deferrals are subject to course availability and must be used within 6 months of the original enrolment.
Special Consideration
Students experiencing illness, hardship or other significant personal circumstances may apply for a refund, credit, or deferral outside the normal policy conditions. Each case will be assessed individually, and supporting documentation may be required. Refunds, credit or deferral will not apply for students who have already commenced their course.
Refund Requests
To apply for a refund, cancellation or deferral, students must submit a written request to [email protected]. Requests will be reviewed within 10 business days, and written outcomes will be provided.
Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) are required to adhere to a strict regime that specifies how they can collect student fees. These prescribed conditions determine the amounts and frequencies of payment.
The minimum option for payments you must agree to undertake is:
Stage 1: Enrolment and pre-commencement, you pay a $300 to $500 administration fee (Deposit values varies between courses; this fee is non-refundable for cancellation of attendance for a training course)
Stage 2: Day 1 of course commencement you pay the balance of fees due.
All cancellations within 5 business days of course commencement is non-refundable unless otherwise discussed with Core Training Group staff.
If a student wishes to defer or transfer their original course booking date within 5 business days of course commencement, an alternative date will be provided for an additional booking/transfer fee of $100, on top of the initial $300 to $500 deposit towards the course fees.
An agreed deferral may only occur once and must be utilised within 2 months of the original booking. If a second transfer of date is requested, the original deposit of $300 to $500 and the previous additional booking/transfer fee of $100 (Totalling $400 to $600) will then be forfeited and a new booking deposit of $300 to $500 will be required.
Your course fees will be held in a holding account to ensure reimbursement of fees can be managed until training is completed. Core Training Group endorses this fee payment system as it protects the learner from the possible loss of fees and will encourage sound financial management by the RTO.

Important Student Visa / CRICOS Notice
Core Training Group is not registered on CRICOS and cannot issue a Confirmation of Enrolment for student visa purposes.
You must not enrol in this course if you are currently in Australia on a Subclass 500 Student Visa, or if you require a CRICOS-registered course to apply for, maintain, extend or satisfy a student visa condition.
If you hold another temporary visa, you are responsible for confirming that your visa conditions allow you to undertake this training before enrolling. Core Training Group staff cannot provide migration advice. If you are unsure, please contact the Department of Home Affairs or a registered migration agent before proceeding.
