It is important to note that occupational licensing, legislative, regulatory, or certification requirements may be applicable at the time of publication. This qualification does not provide the competencies required for a security officer licence. However, learners who already hold a security licence may choose units as part of this qualification that are necessary for additional licence endorsements in areas such as:

Control room operations
Security officers at this level are expected to provide leadership within a team environment, operate with limited supervision, and exercise discretion and judgement in both familiar and unpredictable work contexts. They are responsible for their own work and learning outputs, and may have limited responsibility for the output of others in their work team.

This course is ideal for individuals seeking to enhance their existing skills and knowledge as a team leader or to pursue various roles that require close personal protection operations.
The Certificate III in Close Protection Operations is focused on providing the essential knowledge and skills necessary for job roles as a security officer. It is also suitable for those who have acquired qualifications and skills through other forms of employment or training, such as in the Police Force, Corrections Department, Military Service, or those who have previously held a security qualification and licence.
These individuals may opt to formalise their experience by obtaining this qualification through Recognition of Prior Learning or Current Competency.
Prerequisites Stipulated By The RTO
For a learner to undertake study with this RTO, the following prerequisites are required before a learner can be enrolled or issued with a Qualification.
Must hold a current Security Officers licensing in the relevant jurisdiction
Must have Certificate II in Security Operations
Must live in and have a Western Australian residential address;
Must have a USI number;
Have the right to work in Australia;
Applicants must demonstrate the basic language, literacy and numeracy required at this level. A LLN assessment may be conducted at pre-enrolment to assess whether the applicant requires LLN support for this training; and
Minimum age requirements is 18 years to complete this course
100 points of identification
It is expected that learners:
Have reading and writing skills that will enable them to understand diagrams; complete written reports; and understand workplace documents
Are able to communicate effectively in formal situations and meetings
Are able to undertake basic research for workplace documents

How Is The Course Delivered?
The Certificate III in Close Protection Operations course is structured to be delivered over a minimum of 10 days over 2 weeks, with each day consisting of 8 hours of face-to-face instruction.
The total nominal training hours for this qualification amount to 236 hours. The Western Australia Security Licensing Branch mandates a minimum of 120 hours of face-to-face instruction. This is divided into 120 hours of supervised instruction and 116 hours of unsupervised activities. The unsupervised activities include the completion of written and scenario-based tasks, which are designed to build upon the theory covered during the face-to-face sessions.
All learners undertaking training with Core Security Training must consider the following:
Before attending the course, review information about the course to ensure that it meets your needs.
Advise the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) of any limitations that might impact your ability to successfully complete the training course. This could include physical restrictions, language, literacy, or numeracy challenges. To address these issues, we recommend contacting the RTO as soon as possible to schedule a meeting. During this meeting, you can discuss a tailored learning plan or adjustments to the training delivery, ensuring you can successfully meet the course requirements.;
Complete any pre-course work designated;
Provide all required information in the documents provided, including a Unique Student Identifier (USI). USIs can be obtained from www.usi.gov.au;
Attend training classes as outlined in the joining instruction for the course, and participate actively and enthusiastically in all training activities;
Behave in a courteous and respectful manner towards your trainer and other learners at all times;
Complete all written activities and assessments legibly;
Complete any workplace assessments as directed in a timely and legible manner;
Work with your employer to ensure you have suitable opportunities to complete your post-course assessment;
If you are unable to complete your assessment within the designated time frame, contact the RTO to discuss options;
Retain a copy of all assessments submitted; and
All work submitted is your own.
Assessment
To obtain a nationally recognised qualification, participants must complete an assessment project, engage with course readings, and fulfil written assessments. Specific details regarding the assessment will be provided along with the course materials.

The RTO will issue the learner Qualification:

Where learners have completed Unit of Competency (UoC) electives that go beyond the requirements of the training package, such as electives for crowd controller or control room operator for security licensing purposes, they will be awarded a Statement of Attainment for those specific UoC electives. This is contingent upon the payment of fees. The learner will receive their Statement of Attainment either in person upon completion of the course or via mail within 28 days of completing the course.
The trainers and assessors responsible for delivering our course are accredited experts in their respective fields. They hold the requisite qualification(s) to deliver this course and meet the relevant professional experience requirements in line with the 2025 Standards Credential Policy.
Recognition of Prior Learning is available to individuals who have extensive experience in investigative and related fields. If you have more than 12 months of experience in investigations, you are encouraged to consider the RPL process. This involves undertaking a self-assessment against the competency standards of this qualification.
The assessment for RPL is carried out through a comprehensive portfolio of evidence, a workbook, questions, and written scenarios, all of which support your claim for RPL. More information about the RPL process will be provided before enrolment by our training assessors. During this process, you and your Impact assessor will determine if there is a need for any additional training, which can be completed through individual units, potentially at an additional fee.

Cancellation policy
Deposits are non-refundable for students who fail to attend classes or decide after booking that they no longer wish to participate. You may change your class times, provided such changes are made more than 48 hours before the class starts.

Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) are required to adhere to a strict regime that specifies how they can collect student fees. These prescribed conditions determine the amounts and frequencies of payment.
The minimum option for payments you must agree to undertake is:
Stage 1: Enrolment and pre-commencement, you pay a $200 administration fee (this fee is non-refundable for cancellation of attendance for a training course no less than 5 business days prior to course commencement, to cover administration costs)
Stage 2: Day 1 of course commencement you pay the balance of fees due.
All cancellations within 5 business days of course commencement is non-refundable unless otherwise discussed with Core Security Training staff.
If a student wishes to defer or transfer their original course booking date within 5 business days of course commencement, an alternative date will be provided for an additional booking/transfer fee of $100, on top of the initial $200 deposit towards the course fees.
An agreed deferral may only occur once and must be utilised within 2 months of the original booking. If a second transfer of date is requested, the original deposit of $200 and the previous additional booking/transfer fee of $100 (Totaling $300) will then be forfeited and a new booking deposit of $200 will be required.
Your course fees will be held in a holding account to ensure reimbursement of fees can be managed until training is completed. Core Security Training endorses this fee payment system as it protects the learner from the possible loss of fees and will encourage sound financial management from RTOs.
